Merry Christmas from Fresh Eyes!

Thanks for your support over the last year, means loads to us. We've had a great year, with particular highlights being some very sweaty gigs at the Chameleon, Hockley Hustle and the pure joy of the Damn You Christmas Covers Party. Also big thanks to everyone who's put us on or lent us gear!

See you soon

Strike A Pose

Hello again,

I could make a comparison here about blog posts and buses, and how you wait ages for the latter to turn up and then two appear, but I'd be massively deluding myself about anyone waiting for this blog to be updated!

Anyhow, we're dipping our toes into the grubby world of merchandising, and have got some tshirts printed up. We're doing them at a price of £5 each, plus postage. (No postage if you buy one from us at a gig!) They're available in Mens S, M, L and XL, and Girls fit S, M and L. If you would like one, please email us at fresheyesforthedeadguy@gmail.com and we'll sort something out! I'm sure we can chuck some other goodies in the post as well.

All for now!

Hi!

First update in a while! Though for those of you reading this who don't know us (for instance, if you are from the future and laughing at primitive blogs in the same way we chuckle at geocities these days..) it doesn't mean we've been dead- far from it in fact! We've been super busy the past couple of months, played a load of shows, mucked about with recording and got some t-shirts printed!
Hockley Hustle was an absolute blast, thank you so much to Default This for putting us on! My feet hurt the day after from dancing to (bands covering..) At the Drive-In, Fugazi and Refused in particular.
Our friend Paul Lockton took some pictures as well, which can be found on flickr here.

Upcoming, we've got a gig with Bomb the Music Industry coming up at the Maze in Nottingham on the 9th November, so come and party with us! Facebook event is here.
Poster is at the top!

I'll update this later with some details on our nice new tshirts...

Cheers

I, feel so alive! (Returning to playing live again)

Hey hey jazz cats.

Firstly, apologies for referencing POD in the title..

Anyway, now onto the purpose of this post.

We're playing our first gig in over a month next week at our favourite stomping ground, the Chameleon Arts Cafe in Nottingham, on Thursday 16th September, with Auxes, Solomon Grundy and These Waves.
If you look closely you may observe all the bands sound awesome, this is one not to be missed!

A couple of weeks later we're playing at the same venue on Thursday 30th September, again with Axis Of from Northern Ireland, who we played with earlier this year. Needless to say, we're excited about playing with them again!

In other news, we're progressing work on our new record, which will be released by Bad News Records later this year, hopefully we'll be playing a bit further afield around then as well to support the release.
If you've stumbled onto this blog and would like to book us (or just say hello!), please give us an email at fresheyesforthedeadguy@googlemail.com.

That's all for now.

Record-o-tron

Yo,
Quick update from us here. We've been busy in the studio over the past couple of weekends, recording a new EP, which we hope to have released in November!
So far we've done six tracks, played with lots of guitar amps, made lots of emergency trips to get kettle chips, laughed at terrible vocal takes and shot some videos. (Tom is compiling them into an A-Z we hope to post here soon!)

Anyway, if anyone is desperate for updates follow us on twitter.

That's all for now!

A splash of paint...

Hey hey.

The more observant of you/obsessive stalkers may have noticed our myspace has changed slightly to take advantage of the new myspace beta thing. I think myspace has needed an overhaul for a good few years, compared to many social networking sites it was an absolute dog to use, so this is a welcome change. Feedback on the new gubbins appreciated- what should we put on there? (More high angle photos with the contrast whacked up? I think this is a trend that is sadly dying out.)

In other news, we gigged a bit more and have some new local friends in Worselings (I'm under strict instructions not to call them 'The Worselings'- so hecklers, that's their Achilles heel) who I would advise you to check out.

This weekend we are heading to the Doghouse studio in Sneinton to record the follow up to the Triceratops EP, which was not really an EP, just a collection of early demos. If things go to plan, it will be released in November on Bad News Records. At this time we hope to have a launch party too, complete with cake! (Everyone loves cake)
We're also looking at getting some tshirts made up, once we've got a design that we like. (Currently I feel that tshirt design has reached an unassailable peak since seeing a 40-something man wearing a tshirt reading "^this guy needs a beer". Where can fashion go after that?)

Anyway, that's all for now. If you need a Fresh Eyes fix before then, we'll be spouting rubbish on our twitter (@FreshEyesShout) or feel free to leave us a message on our facebook group.

Keep it real.

Sunday 1 August 2010

Hey hey, it's Nicholas again.

Firstly, thanks to Clique Claque for putting us on last Friday, it was lots of fun, and to Cissy and Escapologists. I also apologise to anyone who saw us in advanced states of perspiration, I've learned to never wear a grey shirt when gigging again. But yeah, it was a good night.

Gigs
If anyone has the Monday blues*, we have the perfect cure:
Godzilla Black + Fresh Eyes for the Dead Guy + Worselings at the Maze, Nottingham on Mansfield Road. (Facebook event) Doors at 8pm, though I'm not sure of the cost. (I'd guesstimate at around £3.)

For anyone in the 'West Midlands', we're playing in Walsall on Friday the 6th August (Facebook event here) at the 'Wharf Bar'. I've never been to Walsall before, so I'm kind of excited about this cultural journey, even if the proximity of the M6 Toll Road makes me uneasy.

Other Stuff
In a couple of weeks we will be heading back into the dark recesses of 'the studio' once again, to record a follow up EP to Triceratops. (Which was really more of a compilation thing..) We're not 100% on which tracks yet, as we're writing songs quicker than we can think up titles for them.

That's all for now...

Post-World Cup Daze and Triceratops Stream

Hey,

We've had a bit of a quiet week here in the world of Fresh Eyes, though in a quiet week for us this still means we get stuff done! We're still slightly disorientated by the lack of football on TV since the World Cup ended, but none the less did the following.

Triceratops EP Streaming

Our first EP- named 'Triceratops' after this cheeky chap adorning the front cover. (Hopefully teh upload codez will work and the player will appear below..) It features six tracks of punk-rock goodness.

Upcoming Gigs

We have some gigs coming up soon as well (it feels like ages since we last played, though in reality it's a few weeks!), the next being at the Chameleon Arts Cafe on July 30th, with Cissy and Escapologists.

Following that on August 2nd we're at The Maze playing with Worselings (False Sense of Security Rock) and Godzilla Black (Monster-riding Evil Battling Rock.)

We've also got another couple of things in the pipeline, so keep an eye on our twitter and facebook pages! (Or if you're old-skool, our myspace.)

What Band Members Have Been Doing

Nicholas attempted to clean the kitchen with Cillit Bang not using gloves, and has now got weird hands.
Si went camping to the 'New' Forest, and got sunburn. His back is now the colour of Raoul Moat's face.
Chillie got a haircut and drank gin.
Tom went flathunting and discovered that there are approximately 6.5 unsold 'luxury' flats per person in Nottingham.

Right, it's sunny for the first time this week, so I'm going outside for a bit.
Goodbye internet.

Fresh Eyes Photo Explosion!

Hi, over on our facebook page our good friend Dan has uploaded some pictures taken from our live appearances over the past couple of months, a few examples of which can be seen to the right.

If you've ever wondered how often we look like we're gurning or pulling daft faces whilst we're playing, you can use this collection of pixels to form the basis of your calculations.

p.s. Apologies for this post looking a bit messy!

The week Chillie painted shit black.

Hello, I am Chillie, the bassist for Fresh Eyes. Recently I have been repeatedly harassed by the people I know to tell them stories of all the adventures I've been having in my new career path of unemployed. I've never 'blogged' but I assume this is what people do, write about their week. I'm about halfway through mine, it's 4:29 on Friday morning, I've been down the Paradise Lounge, but that's Thursday, and it'd be easier to start on Monday.

On Monday, I think I woke up about 12 o'clock, I've been waking up at like 9 and stuff like I usually do, but I just wake up restless, sometimes in pain (I slept on my lighter on tuesday) I sleep it off til about 12... I woke up feeling shite on Monday, due to Sunday, but that's last week. But ye, I went downstairs thought 'I'll have a cup of tea, fag in the garden, beans on toast in a bit, I'll be fine by half 1' like you usually do... Nope, Alex, my old housemate had come up for the weekend, he went at 3, I had the house to myself, I sat down, by this point I was feeling worse. I had a little nap, woke up about 9, still felt pretty shit, but thought, I'll be sound tommorow. But ye, I got up, did some cleaning and that, made a quick curry, had that on waffles, Matt (my housemate) got back about 20 past 11, that was good, sat with him for a bit, played pro evo, went to bed, pretty boring day sorry :/

Tuesday I was awoken by Clio, next doors cat trying to steal my bloody warm spot. It was about 5am or something, and I woke up with this weird thing in my ribs (I was lying on my front) I was like wha? rolled over to look... Clio was fucking nudging my in the ribs so I'd roll over, soon as I did she pounced on where I was lying! Anyways... I went back to sleep... Woken up Again! at like fucking 8 o'clock or something shit, I was lying on my back at this point, legs straight, Clio nudging her arse in trying to get comfy, she kept them warm, so I wasn't complaining. Not much happened in the day I don't think, I was saving my energy for Fresh Eyes practice, that were good, we were working on new songs, one's fucking badass, big bass chords :D as soon as I get an Ampeg, it will be one to make you pooh your pants haha. Came home... I think Matt cooked me some chips, had me a chip butty, with a bowl of chips, I was um-ing and aah-ing about whether to have them with gravy, or a curry sauce, I ended up going with ketchup... aaaaaaagain :/

Wednesday, I was fucking up and at it Wednesday, I went down to doghouse, painted some shit black, it was fucking wicked. I finished off a wall, did the doorway and all that, and some storage bits, I may be paraphrasing words unspoken, but I heard someone mention how 'you couldn't pay a proffessional to do a better job' and they were right. Most people may go on about it's painting a wall black, not that hard... you haven't seen black, unless I've painted it black. That took up the most of my day, I think Baz picked me up about half 12, and I left there about 1/4 to 9, got home for half 9, was a good days work. I missed the Spain v Germany match. I'd put some bets on it, I'd gone to ladbrokes.com, put a £5 bet on... you get 4 free £5 bets! hard! but ye, we'd put a few on, one was for 4-3 to Germany, I've been good with scores this world cup, I've guessed like a fair few to be fair, but ye that failed, but then we were mucking around with others, and the one I was hoping for was for Schweinesteiger to score first, and for it to be 2-2 at 90mins... that was a free bet... if it had come through I would have £3270 right now :/ gutted ey? but ye... I came home, Matt had finished early (he usually finishes at 11) and got back as I had finished having a piss and was coming back out to go to Londis, he came down, went home, cooked a sausage casserole, had a few games of pro evo, went to bed.

Thursday I woke up about 10, me Dad was in Nottingham doing some conveyor belt shenanigans, and said he would stop by for a cup of tea, but ye that wasn't til lunch ish, so I lay in bed, got up a bit later than I'd hoped (when my Dad was on the way haha) but ye... I got up and packed my bag, I was getting a lift backto my parents for the weekend as there is 'fuse festival' in Lichfield, some music festival type thing... but ye, had a cup of tea with my Dad, drove back to his office in Leicster, sat there, read the 5th and 6th Sandman's by Neil Gaiman, then drove back to Lich after he'd finished work. The evening started around 11 o'clock, I got bored sitting around doing nothing, with no-one answering their phones, or on facebook, so I thought I'd take a walk down Paradise, see if anyone good's there, if not I thought, I'll just go to the 24hr Tesco, get a bottle of Dr.Pepper and some Skittles. But ye, I was in there til about half 1, I haven't got any ravenous Gin fuelled antics to tell you about I'm afraid, I had 2 cokes, played some pool, sat about the usual. Though I did fucking find 70p! I was like fucking buzzing, I looked at my change... I had £1.50 I was like right, I'm going tesco, Dr Pepper - £1, Skittles - 50p! I was so happy, I shall sleep a happy man this morning. But ye, got that, walked home, that took me up til about 3, I sat and watched South Park, and thought fuck it, I shall write that blog thing...

Well, now you know what I do when I'm not a Fresh Eye, stay tuned for more adventures.

Incoming!

Hello you,

Cheers to everyone who came to see us in Derby last Friday, to Marty and Buttonpusher for putting us on, and to Bleaklow and Stay Classy San Diego, who were ace.

Next show we've got coming up is on Friday 30th July at the Chameleon in Nottingham, with Cissy and Escapologists. It should be a good one. (If you've not been to the Chameleon before, it's a bit like a gig in a large living room. And the sound in there is ace!)

We're working on some new songs at the moment, so hopefully should be able to debut a new track or two then. (One has a working title of 0451, spot the reference game geeks..) We may also be tentatively venturing into the murky would of budget merchandising and have some badges for you lovely people.

That is all for now, keep it real chumpsters.

Nicholas

Megapixels - Free Download

Megapixels by FreshEyes

Hello everyone,

I forgot we've got one of these 'soundcloud' thangs, so to celebrate memory, here is Megapixels, for your streaming/downloading pleasure. This is a rerecording of one of the tracks we did in our first studio session.
If you've seen us live we usually open with this track, I think it was one of the first things we wrote.
Enjoy

A Perfect Place to Start

Hello,

This is our first post.
We hope you are well, we've just spent a few hours in a very, very warm rehearsal space. The air conditioning.. it does NOTHING.
More later!
